The most rewarding aspect of my puppet sewing pattern business is hearing from our customers about how their finished puppets are bringing more joy to the world. A teacher from Montreal, Quebec Canada sent me a note about a very imaginative and unique collaboration at the school where she teaches.
A School’s Creative Collaboration Between Kids in Different Grades
Her high school drama students were preparing for their presentation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They needed quite a few squirrel puppets for their production. How were they going to get all those puppets at a reasonable cost? In her own words, the challenge was solved, “Although it is a high school play, our Grade 4 teacher is going to embark on a sewing journey with the younger students so they can help out with the play! Should be quite the exciting collaboration!” As a first step on this sewing journey they decided to use our Squirrel Puppet Sewing Pattern.
A few months later she wrote me a follow up note saying the collaboration was a “smashing success.” The 4th graders who made the puppets received free admission to the show as a thank you.
Welcome to The Nut Room!
I don’t know the story line of the students’ production but these pictures of the set design of the Nut Room with nuts strewn all over the stage along with a scurry of squirrels made me giggle. The feeling I’m getting from looking at the pictures is that the puppeteers did an excellent job of bringing the puppets to life. There is a lot of action going on and the puppets are looking at each other. If I didn’t live in a whole different country, I would have loved to experience their production live to hear their voices. Great job drama students!

When creating my sewing patterns, I try to design them so that even beginners can create a puppet that they would be proud of. I am so impressed with the sewing skills of those 4th graders! Their puppets look even more professionally sewn than what I sew. All of the eyes look better than what I usually end up with. They even used fur for the tails! Working with fur can be a little challenging but it looks so cute! In my opinion, all of the puppet makers pass with flying colors!
Just from looking at the pictures I know the production was a smashing success. I am honored that my squirrel pattern was used as the beginning step for your squirrel actors. But it was the dedication, hard work and support of everyone involved in the production that made it such a successful collaboration. Thank you for sharing it all with me.
