Our pattern of the month is the dolphin! To celebrate we are offering a free coloring page that could also be turned into a stick puppet. And in later blogs we will have free downloads of a dolphin paper bag puppet and a pattern to make a simple felt hand puppet which requires no sewing!
Fun Facts About Dolphins
Dolphins are incredible marine mammals. They have to surface to breathe air and they give birth to live young. They share many of the same emotions as humans. They are socially skilled, intelligent, agile, joyful, very curious and playful creatures. Dolphins are social and live in groups called pods. They interact with each other, communicate with each other, swim together, hunt and protect each other as a team.
Other fun facts about dolphins are:
- A pod of dolphins will attack an aggressive shark
- They can live 20- 50 years
- They can swim 20 miles per hour
- The average size is about 8 feet long
- Every dolphin has a distinct whistle like humans have a distinct voice
- They have a larger brain capacity than humans with a complex neocortex that allows them to be self aware and solve problems
