Horses come in a large variety of colors, here’s a few ideas to make using our horse puppet pattern from our store or from our Etsy store.
Play around with the color of the Hooves and Foot. I used black felt for the pattern, since it works best with most colors and the gray horseshoe really shows up on a black foot. You can also use light or dark brown for the Hooves and Foot.
Appaloosa
Appaloosa horses have spotted coats with varied manes and tails.
Fleece Color – Spotted
Mane, Forelock – Any solid color to match spots or stripped felt
Ear, Nose and Inside Mouth – Black Felt
Bay
Bay horses have brown to tan coats with black manes and tails.
Fleece Color – Brown or Tan
Mane, Forelock, Ear, Nose and Inside Mouth – Black Felt
Buckskin
Buckskin horses have gold coats with black manes and tails.
Fleece Color – Gold

Chestnut
Chestnut horses have tan to brown coats with same color manes and tails.

Gray
Gray horses are often mistaken for white, but have black skin.

Paint
Paint horses have patches of varied color with varied manes and tails.
Fleece Color – Patched Fleece
Mane, Forelock – Any solid color to match spots or stripped felt

You can also use solid color fleece and sew on patches of felt or fleece in another color to get the Paint look.
Palomino
Palomino horses have gold coats with light manes and tails.

Sorrel
Sorrel horses have tan to brown coats with light color manes and tails.
