For the past two months I’ve been sharing with you the creative, unique or even whimsical animal puppets made by Irene of Nenas Puppet Pals Shop on Etsy to give you ideas of how my animal puppet sewing patterns can be customized to create any type of animal whether it is fantasy or real.
This month I want to share how she has made all types of people puppets using my Person Puppet Pattern. With just changing the color of fleece, adding facial hair, using different colors and types of material for the hair, changing the shape of ears and nose and dressing the puppet in different clothes a whole new character or person is born.
Ideas of How to Create Different People
Using a ball cap and a boy’s shirt turns a puppet into a little boy. Making the nose smaller also gives the illusion the puppet is a child. Children have smaller noses than adults.
A farmer is created for her Old McDonald set of puppets by dressing a puppet in a hat, shirt and overalls, all hand sewn by Irene. I like how she made lips for this male character by using flesh colored felt. You’ll notice on her female puppet that is coming up that she used a bright colored “lipstick” felt to make the lips.
For this gentleman puppet she used black fur to make his hair. Again, she used flesh colored felt to make the lips. When I first saw this puppet, I was taken aback about how realistic his mustache and goatee were. They really bring the puppet to life. When I asked her what she used, she said the beard and goatee were from Eavin Gary on Amazon and was intended for costumes or cosplay. Irene leaves no stone unturned to find the right and perfect product to create her puppets!
This adorable girl is from Irene’s Little Red Riding Hood puppet set. Instead of dressing her in a red cloak, Irene sewed a little girl’s dress complete with gems! Check out Red’s earrings peeking out from her red yarn hair. Using pink felt to make her lips helps identify her as a girl. For the men puppets Irene used flesh colored felt for their lips.
For this “mini me” puppet Irene found some great yarn that matches the customer’s hair almost perfectly. She used felt for the eyebrows and shaped them just like the customer’s. As you can tell from the lady’s smile, she is thrilled with her “mini me.”
Whether you require a people type puppet as a character or a “mini me” contact Irene at her Etsy shop Nenas Puppet Pals Shop and she’ll be able to assist you in creating a one of a kind character puppet or even a puppet clone of yourself.
