In the last blog article we listed some Fun Facts about cats. We also had a free download of a cat coloring page for the kids (or you) to color. In this blog we want to share some of our favorite craft activities that we found on the web that are simple and fun to do. There was so much to choose from – it was hard to make a decision!
How about a Bright Cat Garland? Or if you’re in the Halloween mood, you can make a black cat garland. Using the free template available from the site, (asubtlerevelry.com), trace the cat faces on to card stock and cut out. String them together, glue on facial features and a quick and easy decoration.
This craft includes a lot of different skill development for kids. From cutting out lots of circles, to counting of different shapes and then finally assembling. This Circle Cat Craft is from DLTK-Kids. Free template is available from site. There are two templates available, one in black and white for kids to color and a already colored version.
This Tissue Paper Black Cat is another great paper plate craft. I also like the idea of having kids tear tissue paper. Kids love to tear stuff, what better way to develop motor skills than having them tear something that they are allowed to tear – rather than a book? The pipe cleaner whiskers add the finishing touch. I found this at Glued To My Crafts Blog.
This paper plate craft is unique in that the craft uses the back side of the plate. We found this Paper Plate Cat Craft at I Heart Crafty Things which always has the cutest crafts. With some acrylic paint, construction paper (or the nose could be made with plain paper colored with a crayon or marker), glue, string for whiskers and googly eyes a darling cat is made. I think the feet and tail are so adorable!
Have some spare paper lunch bags laying around? Then get ready to turn them into some cat puppets. Use our free cat paper bag puppet pattern designed by The Tucson Puppet Lady herself! It’s a great activity for the kids to color, cut out, glue and then play with.
Need a puppet with a moving mouth and makes expressions? We’ve got the pattern!
And if you are really bitten by the craft bug, you can use our Cat Puppet Sewing Pattern to make your own puppet. It is available as a digital download so you can start sewing immediately. We recommend using fleece and felt fabrics because they are inexpensive and readily available from craft stores. Customers tell us how easy our step by step patterns (with lots of pictures) are to follow especially after watching the video tutorials. In fact you can watch our free video tutorial on how to sew the cat puppet right now!
what our customers are saying:
“I love her patterns. Pattern well written and easy to follow.”
“I love how the puppet turned out. Please keep the patterns coming!”
NEXT BLOG FEATURES BOOKS AND FREE PUPPET PATTERN
In our next blog, we’ll be sharing a few books which feature cats that preschoolers (and older kids) enjoy. The books range from fact to fiction. We’ll also have a free pattern download for a free cat hand puppet. You don’t even have to know how to sew, the whole puppet can be made using a hot glue gun. Stay tuned to our blog to get your free download.
