Our pattern of the month is the donkey! To celebrate we are offering a free coloring page that could also be turned into a stick puppet. And in later blogs we will have free downloads of a donkey paper bag puppet and a pattern to make a simple felt hand puppet which requires no sewing!
Donkey Fun Facts
Donkeys are highly intelligent. The reason they can be stubborn is because if they sense danger they will not move until they have had a chance to assess the situation to see if its safe to move forward. When a horse senses danger, they will flee immediately. They also make great guard animals. They will defend against dogs, coyotes, foxes or even bobcats. The livestock will see the donkey as a protector and will move to the donkey if it senses danger.
Other fun facts are:
- A baby donkey is called a foal
- They are highly social and don’t like to be alone
- Their ancestor is the African wild ass which is on the brink of extinction
- Their ears help to keep them cool because their ancestors came from the arid region of Africa
- They can live over 50 years
- They have a super memory – they can recognize places or other donkeys from 25 years ago
