In the last blog article we listed some Fun Facts about horses. We also had a free download of a horse coloring page for the kids (or you) to color. In this blog we want to share some of our favorite craft activities that we found on the web that are simple and fun to do. There was so much to choose from – it was hard to make a decision!
No list of horse crafts would be complete unless there is a stick horse in it. We found this adorable stick horse at Ikatbag. She has detailed instructions on how to make it. How apropos that she makes the horse out of recycled blue jeans! Blue jeans are the choice of all cow wranglers of all ages.
What a great craft to teach preschoolers shapes and sizes. Plus, there are tons of ideas of how to extend this craft into a lot of learning opportunities. Especially the paint mixing of different colors to get brown! We found this Shapes Horse Paper Craft at DLTK Kids. We always find such great crafts at this site. You can download the template to make the shapes.
I remember when my kids used to bring home this type of project from school and I always thought it was just beautiful. This Horse Head Stained Glass also is from DLTK Kids. It is more for older children but with a little help even younger ones will have fun gluing the “stained glass.” All instructions and template are at the site. And if stained glass isn’t your thing, there are instructions on how to make a black and white horse silhouette.
Seems like these crafts are more works of art than crafts. This Footprint Horse Craft is so artistic. We found this at Fun Handprint Art Blog. And true to its name, you can even see how to make footprint zebras and unicorns!
Have some spare paper lunch bags laying around? Then get ready to turn them into some horse puppets. Use our free horse paper bag puppet pattern designed by The Tucson Puppet Lady herself! It’s a great activity for the kids to color, cut out, glue and then play with.
Need a puppet with a moving mouth and makes expressions? We’ve got the pattern!
And if you are really bitten by the craft bug, you can use our Horse Puppet Sewing Pattern to make your own puppet. It is available as a digital download so you can start sewing immediately. We recommend using fleece and felt fabrics because they are inexpensive and readily available from craft stores. Customers tell us how easy our step by step patterns (with lots of pictures) are to follow especially after watching the video tutorials. In fact you can watch our free video tutorial on how to sew the Horse puppet right now!
what our customers are saying:
“I love her patterns. Pattern well written and easy to follow.”
“I love how the puppet turned out. Please keep the patterns coming!”
NEXT BLOG FEATURES BOOKS AND FREE PUPPET PATTERN
In our next blog, we’ll be sharing a few books which feature horses that preschoolers (and older kids) enjoy. The books range from fact to fiction. We’ll also have a free pattern download for a free horse hand puppet. You don’t even have to know how to sew, the whole puppet can be made using a hot glue gun. Stay tuned to our blog to get your free download.
