Free Pattern to Make a Simple and Adorable Donkey Hand Puppet Using Squares of Felt From a Craft Store
This simple hand puppet is not only convenient to have on hand to use, it is fast, fun and cheap to make.

When I was a volunteer reader for a preschool I quickly learned how powerful puppets can be while interacting with the kids. It’s amazing how fast the puppet would attract their attention. I had the mistaken idea that I had to be a ventriloquist in order to give the kids the illusion that the puppet was alive. I learned that wasn’t true.
As I would talk or read a book with a puppet on my hand right next to my face, I would look out at the kids and their eyes were always glued on the puppet. I didn’t have to use a expensive store bought puppet in order to gain their attention. I didn’t even have to use a hand made puppet that had a moving mouth that was made from one of my patterns. Just a simple felt puppet like the one below was enough to keep their interest. How about making a simple puppet like this for the next time you read to kids?
Need a puppet fast?
To make this cutie, it only takes two whole squares of gray felt and some scraps of white and black felt. The felt is available at craft stores. You don’t have to know how to sew. The whole thing can be hot glued.
The pattern includes material and supply list along with instructions. To save paper the pattern pieces are at the end of the instructions so that you only have to print out the pattern. Then you can read instructions on a device. Whether you sew or hot glue it together, you will have a puppet ready to play in a short time!
