Make reading to kids fun by using a puppet. Kids love puppets!
Bring a Book Alive With a Puppet
A simple felt hand puppet like the one made from our free Goose Felt Hand Puppet Pattern can bring a book alive. A puppet also helps to act out stories, characters, and scenes from books. This encourages imaginative play and creative thinking. Puppets are an excellent tool for developing listening and attention skills.
Books Featuring the Goose
Here is a short list of books that would go great with a puppet.
With a fun twist on duck, duck, goose author Tammi Sauer and illustrator Zoe Waring bring us Truck, Truck Goose. The book has very little text which will be easy for even little ones to begin to read on their own. For ages 3-4, preschool and up. The story is about Goose crossing the road to go on a picnic and blocking traffic. The book is simple enough for 2 year olds.
Goose is the first book in the “Goose” series by Laura Wall. All of the books are sweet stories about an unusual heartwarming friendship between Sophie and Goose. Goose tells the story about they met. The illustrations are bold, bright and simple. For ages 4-8, preschool to 3rd grade.
Duck and Goose series by Tad Hills. Like the Goose series, there are quite a few books in the Duck and Goose series. I really like Duck and Goose Colors because it is colorful, simple and comes in a board book sturdy for little ones to read on their own. Preschool and up.
Henrietta enjoys her quiet and calm life. Until one day she has a goose egg on her head – a real goose egg. The Goose Egg by Liz Wong is about the trials and tribulations of raising the noisy, disruptive, exhausting goose. (Just like kids.) She is so proud when the goose flies to join the flock. And sad….and lonely. But there is a wonderful surprise for Henrietta at the end of the book. The illustrations are just adorable! Ages 3-7, preschool to 2nd grade.
