Our pattern of the month is the Squirrel! Squirrels can range in size from 2 inches to 2 feet long. I still think squirrels are adorable even though a neighborhood squirrel frequently dines on my vegetable plants. After doing research for this blog article, I now realize why I’m fighting a losing battle to keep my vegetables from being on his/her buffet table.
Fun Facts About Squirrels
- Squirrels can smell food under a foot of snow
- They bury nuts in “caches” either in the ground or even snow
- They will pretend to bury food to thwart potential thieves (even other squirrels)
- Squirrels don’t dig up all of their hidden nuts which results in more trees
- Squirrels are extremely acrobatic, intelligent and adaptable
