Squirrel Craft Activities

In the last blog article we listed some Fun Facts about squirrels.  We also had a free download of a squirrel coloring page for the kids (or you) to color.  In this blog we want to share some of our favorite craft activities that we found on the web that are simple and fun to do.  There was so much to choose from – it was hard to make a decision!

DLTK-Kids always has the cutest and educational crafts.  This is no exception.  Free templates are available if you aren’t comfortable with freehand drawing.  The leaves, which can be real or there is a template included for them also, make a cute tail.  There’s a lot of information about squirrels included with the instructions for the Leaf Squirrel Paper Craft as a bonus.

This 3D mobile is also from DLTK-Kids.  What a cute idea to having all of the nuts hanging below the squirrel.  the picture doesn’t give the artwork justice.  Again, all templates (either black and white or color versions) are included at 3D Squirrel Paper Craft.

This Dixie Cup Squirrel Craft is just adorable!  All it takes is a dixie cup, some paint, construction paper, googly eyes, pom pom, glue or hot glue gun and a marker.  We found this at The Pinterested Parent.

The Magnetic Squirrel and Acorn Fall Craft is a darling DIY toy.  It is so clever to put a staple in the acorn to make it magnetic to the magnet on the other side of the plate.  Moving the magnet gives the appearance of the acorn falling down into the squirrel’s paw.  We found this at The Joy of Sharing, Arts and Crafts for Kids.  There are free templates available for the squirrel and acorn.

A paper plate craft to go with the book Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend.  We found this Scaredy Squirrel Craft at Celeb Baby Laundry.  The finished craft looks just like Scaredy Squirrel!  The instructions call for craft paints.  If you don’t have any, crayons work just as well!

Have some spare paper lunch bags laying around? Then get ready to turn them into some squirrel puppets. Use our free squirrel paper bag puppet pattern designed by The Tucson Puppet Lady herself!  It’s a great activity for the kids to color, cut out, glue and then play with.

Need a puppet with a moving mouth and makes expressions?  We’ve got the pattern!

And if you are really bitten by the craft bug, you can use our Squirrel Puppet Sewing Pattern to make your own puppet. It is available as a digital download so you can start sewing immediately. We recommend using fleece and felt fabrics because they are inexpensive and readily available from craft stores. Customers tell us how easy our step by step patterns (with lots of pictures) are to follow especially after watching the video tutorials.  In fact you can watch our free video tutorial on how to sew the squirrel puppet right now!

what our customers are saying:

“I love her patterns.  Pattern well written and easy to follow.”

“I love how the puppet turned out.  Please keep the patterns coming!”

NEXT BLOG FEATURES BOOKS AND FREE PUPPET PATTERN

In our next blog, we’ll be sharing a few books which feature squirrels that preschoolers (and older kids) enjoy. The books range from fact to fiction. We’ll also have a free pattern download for a free squirrel hand puppet. You don’t even have to know how to sew, the whole puppet can be made using a hot glue gun.
