Make your very own felt hippo hand puppet using our free pattern. This little guy was designed for a Who Ate All the Cookie Dough? puppet play. Very simple to make – just cut felt and glue together. You could hand sew it too, if you wanted.
What you’ll need:
• Hippo Puppet Pattern PDF
• 2 gray felt sheets
• 1 black felt sheet or scraps
• 1 white felt sheet or scraps
• Crayons
• Glue (Hot glue, Fabric Tac or any glue that works with felt)
• Scissors
• Pins
How to Make the Hippo Felt Hand Puppet:
Trace the body pattern on top gray felt sheet with crayon.
Pin the top gray felt sheet to bottom gray felt sheet so they stay together when you cut.
Cut the felt along the traced body line.
Glue the two layers of felt together around the edge keeping the bottom open for your hand.
Cut out all the felt features.
Glue the nose onto the muzzle.
Glue the muzzle onto the body.
Glue the eyes into place.
Glue the pupils into place.
Glue the ears into place.
Glue the inner ears into place.
Cut small squares or circles of white felt and glue onto the eyes for a gleam effect.
