Our pattern of the month is the Cow! Actually all “cows” are female, males are bulls. And females can have horns, not just males. Researchers have found that if you name a cow and treat her as an individual, she will produce almost 500 more pints of milk a year. Cows have favorite friends and become stressed when they are separated.

Monkeys in Books

In our previous blog article we listed a few links to craft projects featuring monkeys that we found around the web. We also had a free download of monkey paper bag puppet pattern.

We are continuing the monkey theme with a list of books that we thought would be interesting and fun to pair with a monkey puppet.  We’ve noticed that kids become more engaged during reading when a puppet is used to help bring a book alive.

Monkey Fun Facts

Our pattern of the month is the Monkey! Capuchin monkeys are believed to be one of the smartest New World monkey species. They have the ability to use tools, learn new skills and show various signs of self-awareness. Monkeys also have feelings. They have love, fear and compassion. And some harried parents probably feel their kids are more monkey than human at times.

Chicken Fun Facts

Our pattern of the month is the Chicken!  Chickens have prehistoric roots and are the closest living relative of the Tyrannosaurus Rex.  They also have the ability to regenerate their hearing to almost 100%!  If their hearing starts to fail, they grow new cells.  This is being studied because it could have a huge impact for human deafness.  They really are fascinating animals.

Dragon Fun Facts

Our Dragon Puppet Sewing Pattern is the pattern of the month! In the Fun Facts blogs about the animals that we have patterns for, we list fun facts about the featured animal. Well, this is going to be just plain fun since dragons are mythological creatures.  Anthropologists suggest that the ideas about dragons came about from ancient discoveries of dinosaur fossils and man’s evolutionary fear of snakes and dangerous reptiles.  Like the komodo dragon.
