A friend, Cindy, was telling us that she needed a squirrel puppet to go with a story she was writing. She also mentioned that she was having trouble turning a sock puppet into a squirrel. It just wasn’t working out the way she envisioned. We wondered if we could create a squirrel puppet.

For crafting and puppet purposes, the alligator and crocodile can be interchangeable.
Our Alligator Puppet Sewing Pattern is the pattern of the month! Even though real alligators are quite ferocious looking with all of those teeth, kids love alligators and alligators are featured prominently in children’s books, finger plays and songs. Even though our puppet pattern is called an alligator, it could be used as a crocodile. The main difference between the two reptiles in real life is that the alligator’s mouth is more U shaped at the end. The end of the crocodile’s mouth is more V shaped. In puppet land, I don’t think it makes much difference.

Even though they are related to aquatic mammals, they can’t swim or float! They stand and walk on sandbanks underneath the water.
